Home / Gold buyer: areas we serve
Grand Junction, Colorado
Grand Junction's gold, silver and coin buyer, where you watch every step.
If you are selling gold, silver or coins in Grand Junction, you ought to see where the number comes from. With the Gold Guy you do. Each piece is tested and weighed with you standing right there, and the offer is handed across with the arithmetic written out.
The Gold Guy is a coin and bullion dealer and the author of REAL MONEY. He handles your pieces himself, and you will be treated better here for it.
- Every test happens on the table between us.
- Your offer shows the weight, the purity, the price used and the total.
- The offer goes home with you if you want a night to think.

Why people in Grand Junction choose the Gold Guy
Your items stay in sight
Whatever you bring stays in front of you, and you see the scale and the result of the test at the same moment we do.
A stamp is checked, never assumed
A stamp only tells us what to expect. Every piece is verified in front of you, and a test that might mark the piece waits until you say go.
Coins are read before they are weighed
We look at the date, the mint mark and the condition of each coin before any of it is treated as metal. One a collector wants is priced as a coin.
You hear the reasoning
The Gold Guy talks while he works. By the time he writes the offer, you already know most of what will be on it.
The units are explained
Precious metal goes by the troy ounce, which is 31.1 grams and roughly a tenth more than the ounce your kitchen scale knows. A pennyweight is a twentieth of that. We go over the units before we read you a weight.
Sell some and keep some
A mixed lot is gone through piece by piece. Your grandmother's ring can go back in your pocket while the broken chains go on the scale.
What we buy and sell in Grand Junction
Gold comes in as wedding bands, class rings, chains, dental gold, coins and bars, and we buy all of it. Scrap goes to a refiner before it is sold again, so it is priced on its refined value, which can sit under the spot price online.
Silver comes in as flatware marked "sterling" or "925", as Morgan and Peace dollars, and as the dimes, quarters and half dollars dated 1964 or earlier. We buy coin collections, graded coins in PCGS and NGC holders, and whole estates straight out of the safe.
Bullion moves through here in both directions. The one-ounce Gold Eagle is 22 karat and still has a full troy ounce of pure gold in it, the Buffalo is 24 karat, and the Silver Eagle carries one troy ounce of .999 silver.
We sell, too. The Coin Vault shows what is in stock, and Gold Guy Club members pay member pricing on eligible pieces. A member can also set the accumulation plan to make a monthly buy on the date they choose.
Three steps, start to finish
- Tell us what is coming. Send a few lines about what you have, and include any stamps or dates you can make out.
- Lay it out in front of us. Bring your items and a valid government-issued photo ID. We sort, test and weigh everything while you watch.
- Read the offer and decide. The offer is put in writing. Give us the word and payment goes out inside 24 hours, as a check, an ACH transfer or store credit.
The decision stays with you.
There is no charge for an offer and no obligation that comes with it. Nothing is sold until you say yes, silence never counts as a yes, and you may walk out with everything you walked in with.
Selling to a dealer who shows the math is a wise and prudent decision. The live spot page has the day's gold and silver prices to hold our figures against.

Frequently asked questions
Who buys gold and silver in Grand Junction?
The Gold Guy does, at the counter here in town. He serves all of Mesa County, including the Redlands, Orchard Mesa, Fruitvale, Clifton, Appleton and Whitewater.
Is there a coin shop in Grand Junction that buys whole collections?
Yes. We buy single coins, albums, jars and entire collections. Bring them uncleaned, please, because a cleaned coin sells for less to a collector.
What does testing a piece involve?
All of it happens in front of you. We read the stamp under a loupe, confirm what the metal is, and put each karat on the scale by itself while you watch the numbers. A stamp is only a mark, so what the test shows is what goes on your offer. Nothing that could mark a piece is done without your say-so.
Do you have to hold what I sell in Grand Junction?
On some items, yes. Colorado law sets a hold on certain pieces before a dealer may melt or resell them, and we point out which of yours it covers.
Tell us what you have.
A few lines will do. Tell us what it is, roughly how much of it there is, and any stamps or dates you can read, and we will write back with what to bring and what to expect. If you are still working out what is in the box, the seller quiz will sort it out in a few minutes.
