Live Spot Prices & Precious Metals Valuation

View gold and silver spot prices and run melt-value and premium calculations on any coin or bar.

The page loads live gold and silver spot prices and runs a junk-silver melt-value calculator and a premium-over-spot calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How is the junk-silver melt value calculated?

Face value (in coin dollars) × 0.715 × the live silver spot price per troy ounce. 0.715 is the standard troy-ounce-of-silver-per-dollar-of-face-value figure for pre-1965 U.S. 90%-silver coinage -- it's the exact constant the calculator above uses, not a separate estimate.

How is melt value calculated for a specific coin or bar?

Weight in troy ounces × purity (as a decimal, e.g. 0.999 for one-ounce fine silver) × the live spot price for that metal. The premium-over-spot calculator above uses this exact formula.

What counts as a fair premium over spot?

There's no single correct number -- it depends on the coin or bar, the dealer, and current market conditions. This calculator shows you the real percentage and dollar amount above melt value so you can compare offers yourself, rather than telling you what to pay.

Are the gold and silver prices shown here live?

Yes -- both fields load from a live spot-price feed when the page opens and can be refreshed on request. Either field can also be edited manually if you want to calculate against a different quote, such as one a dealer just gave you.

Is this financial or investment advice?

No. These are calculators for understanding melt value and premiums, not a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold anything -- talk to a licensed financial advisor before making an investment decision.
