Selling

This course covers selling precious metals: why the price a dealer pays is lower than the price a dealer charges, and how local shops, national dealers and online sales differ. It also covers how the IRS treats precious metals as collectibles, why purchase records matter, and how rebalancing works as a selling discipline. By the end the reader understands the steps and costs involved in turning metal back into cash.

Lessons

  1. Are You Sitting on Sellable Gold? (Check yourself): A short set of questions about what you have, how long you have had it, what prompts the thought of selling and what worries you about it. The answers show where you stand, from just curious to ready to find out. It is a way to organize your own thinking before any other step.
  2. What Did They Leave You? (Check yourself): Two minutes about a collection that was passed down: how it arrived, who else is part of it and what you would like to happen. It never asks for a value and says nothing about what a collection is worth. It helps you describe the situation clearly before any other step.
  3. Settling an Estate: What Does the File Need? (Check yourself): Two minutes for an executor, a family helper or an heir. It records what you have been told the file needs, whether there is a date, who must agree and whether the items can travel. It never says what the file needs.
